Peoria, Illinois - Section Chief - Principle Duties and Responsibilities include teaching infectious disease topics to medical students in lectures, seminars, clinics, and wards; developing and delivering resident education in the subspecialty of Infectious Disease by providing rotations for residents on an infectious disease service, giving infectious disease core lectures, and attending morning report and other conferences; serving on appropriate educational committees at the College of Medicine; serving on appropriate hospital committees to improve the quality of patient care; performing inpatient and outpatient care as a consulting and attending infectious disease physician specialist; working 3-4 half-days per week in the ambulatory care of HIV-infected and/or infectious disease patients; delivering 1-2 lectures per year during medicine grand rounds on topics of relevance to general internists; and supporting and developing the research and scholarly activities of the Department of Medicine and the Section of Infectious Disease. The physician will function as a faculty person within the statutes of the University of Illinois and as a staff member within the bylaws of the university-affiliated hospital(s). An opportunity to participate as a general internal medicine hospitalist attending physician on the resident teaching service is also available. Applicants are required to have MD or equivalent degree; completion of an infectious disease fellowship program; current certification or eligible for certification in the subspecialty of infectious disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine, or equivalent specialty qualifications; eligibility for medical license in the State of Illinois and medical staff appointment at hospitals affiliated with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. Preference given to applicants with experience as faculty members in training programs approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), with administrative experience, and experience with investigator-initiated research leading to extramural grant funds and/or peer-reviewed publications.
